Matilda Battersby is currently writing Forced Perspective, a novel which won the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize 2024. When she isn’t writing fiction, Matilda is a freelance newspaper and magazine editor and journalist.

Matilda spent seven years working at The Independent newspaper, where she was arts editor for digital. She was editor of the literary magazine Popshot Quarterly for five years, while also freelancing. She has written for The Times, i newspaper, Evening Standard, HuffPost UK, Guardian, Telegraph, BBC and others. She is about to join The Bookseller as senior reporter part-time. She also teaches journalism at a London university.

Matilda is originally from London and currently lives in Walthamstow with her partner and son.
