Bel Trew is the Independent’s Chief International Correspondent and was named Foreign Reporter of the Year at the UK Press Awards in 2023. Over the past decade, Bel has sought to tell lesser-reported stories and shatter stereotypes around the world, from the Arab Spring uprisings to war in Ukraine.
She has produced multiple in-depth investigations. Her video and text series The Missing uncovered evidence of possible war crimes, including torture, widespread illegal transfer of civilians, enforced disappearances, forced labour and hostage taking and her documentary The Body in the Woods explores the nightmare of a nation struggling to find thousands of its missing and to identify its dead.
