We are devastated to hear of the untimely death of our much admired and beloved PFD client, the acclaimed photojournalist, cinematographer and author Paul Conroy. Paul died of a heart attack in the early hours of the morning on 28 February in Devon, having just returned from a reporting assignment in Cuba a few days earlier. Our thoughts are with Paul’s family at this difficult time.
In his time as a photojournalist and documentary maker Paul covered many conflicts around the world but was perhaps best known for his courageous war reportage in Syria and Ukraine. In 2012 he was severely wounded in the Syrian army’s bombardment of Homs, which killed his close Sunday Times colleague and great friend, the award-winning journalist Marie Colvin. Paul’s first book UNDER THE WIRE was published by Quercus in 2013 and was partially written while he was in hospital in London recovering from his injuries. His experiences in Syria also inspired his raw, powerful, and widely praised feature documentary of the same name (UNDER THE WIRE, 2018).
