Ruth Millington is an art historian, writer and curator. Since completing her MA in Art History at the University of Oxford, she has worked for major cultural institutions including the Ashmolean, the Estorick Collection, Connaught Brown and Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

Specialising in modern and contemporary art, Ruth appears as an expert on radio and TV. She has featured on BBC Breakfast, Woman’s Hour, ITV News, Channel 4, Radio 4’s Today programme and Sky Arts. She is currently developing a podcast with the National Portrait Gallery.

Writing for museums, newspapers and magazines, she has been commissioned by the Observer, the Telegraph, the i, the Independent, Art UK, Galerie Perrotin and others.

Her first book Muse (Vintage, 2022) uncovers the hidden figures behind art history’s masterpieces, reframing the muse as an empowered agent of art history. She has since curated exhibitions on the theme for London Art Fair, Oxford Festival of the Arts and Mayfair’s ROSL.

In 2024, Nosy Crow published her first children’s art title, This Book Will Make You An Artist, in which she invites children to make mini-masterpieces inspired by great artists of the past. Acting as a consultant, she has fact-checked children’s art books for Ladybird and DK.
