Patrick Baker is an author of books which look to understand the complex emotional, social and cultural connections between person and place in wild and remote landscapes.
He has previously written a hillwalking guide book to a range of hills in Central Scotland, published by Cicerone in 2004; and two works of narrative non-fiction, ‘The Cairngorms, a secret history’ (Birlinn, 2015), and ‘The Unremembered Places’ (Birlinn, 2020). The latter was nominated for the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature, shortlisted for the TGO Magazine Book of the Year, and was named a BBC Countryfile Magazine Book of the Year. Patrick also served for four years as a non-executive director for Mountain Training Scotland – the awarding body for mountain-related personal skills training and qualification schemes in Scotland.
Patrick’s next book, ‘The Sheltering’, is scheduled for publication with Headline Press in Summer 2027.
