Nikky Smedley

Nikky creates, writes, performs and teaches. Best known for having played LaaLaa in the original series of ‘Teletubbies’, she now performs her interactive children’s stories with the aid of a GIGANTIC skirt and a puppet called Sam. Over two decades untangling the mysteries of engaging children have led to conference speaking and teacher training on this subject throughout Europe. Her journalistic contributions are primarily for educational magazines, including her regular column, ‘How To Speak Child’ in ‘Teach Early Years’ magazine.

But it’s not all about the kids!

Nikky teaches performance techniques to business people, as well as continuing to work as a director and dramaturg, devising and writing for theatre and multi-media projects. Her latest one-woman show, Nikipedia, is very much for grown-ups only.

Her memoir, Over the Hills and Far Away: My Life as a Teletubby was published by Sandstone Press in 2022.
