Gareth is a Roman historian, numismatist and collector driven by the goal of bringing the wonders of the ancient world to a wider audience.
His passion for classical history combines perfectly with his love of travel and he has journeyed to hundreds of archaeological sites in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa – including lesser visited countries like Libya and Albania. He has worked on excavations of Roman villas in the southwest of England and written about Roman sites in the publications of the Association for Roman Archaeology (ARA), all the while celebrating every aspect of ancient Rome with his large online following. His ability to combine thrilling storytelling with rigorous historical research to make classical history relatable to the public, has gained him almost 100,000 enthusiastic followers on Twitter, with his posts regularly shared by the most famous names in the field.
As a collector of Roman coinage, he has built his own extensive coin collection over two decades and pioneered new ways to bring the joys of this esoteric field to a popular audience; his coin collecting website and blog have been enjoyed by thousands of visitors and his high-resolution coin photography is gaining worldwide attention. He is a member of the British Numismatic Society and can often be found at coin shows and auctions around the UK.
His debut book, Heads or Tails, will be published by The Bodley Head/Penguin Random House in 2024
