Dawn Jelley

Dawn is a journalist and editor from Ingatestone, Essex and has worked for the BBC, House of Lords, Sky, Discovery and Google. She is completing the MA in Prose Fiction at the University of East Anglia and has an MA in Radio from Goldsmith’s College, London.

 

Dawn’s debut historical fiction, THE SUFFOLK MERMAN, was longlisted for the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize 2024, and shortlisted for the Adventures in Fiction Spotlight First Novel Award 2024. It tells the story of a merman imprisoned at Orford Castle in Suffolk during a visit by Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Her novel is inspired by the legend of the Wild Man of Orford, recorded in 1207 by Ralph of Coggeshall.
