Lucy Cavendish College, part of the University of Cambridge and the organiser of the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize, is launching a festival for aspiring authors.

The one-day event, entitled the Fiction Prize Festival, will take place on 19th January and will comprise of talks, workshops and one-to-ones with authors and experts from the publishing industry, as well as book signings, networking drinks and an optional evening dinner.

Speakers will include authors Sophie Hannah (pictured), Lesley Sanderson, Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott, Laura Marshall and Sara Collins, literary agent Nelle Andrew from Peters Fraser and Dunlop (the prize’s sponsor), and broadcaster and former Lucy Cavendish president Jackie Ashley. Novelist and journalist Allison Pearson, who chairs the fiction prize judging panel, will also be involved.

“The Fiction Prize Festival is the best opportunity for would-be writers,” said Andrew. “If you want to be published but don’t want to spend hundreds on courses and are looking for real insight, join us for a day that could change your life.”

The Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize was founded by professor Janet Todd in 2010 and is open to any unpublished female authors over the age of 21. Last year Sarah Ward won the £1,500 prize with her novel, Resurrection, Port Glasgow, which addressed themes of war, overcoming fear, and the redemptive nature of art.

Tickets for The Fiction Prize Festival cost between £25 and £120 and are available online.
