PFD’s Lockdown Library is a new project bringing together our wonderful authors to offer up some fun, learning and relaxation during these strange times. We’ll be posting regular book readings, short talks and Lockdown Lunches from our chefs, so be sure to follow our Twitter and Instagram(both @pfdagents) to see when there’s something new in the #LockdownLibrary.

Judith grew up in North West London, the daughter of librarians, surrounded by books.  Following in the family footsteps, her first job was as a Saturday assistant in the local library, with special responsibility for the ballet section, which she loved.   After studying Fashion at Saint Martins, she worked as a Fashion Editor and later, as a features writer, mainly writing articles on pregnancy and parenting.  More recently, she completed an MA in Children’s Literature at Birkbeck University and now works as a school librarian.  She lives in South East London. Her first novel, The Secret Starling, was published by Faber on the 2nd May 2019. Her most recent novel, The Pear Affair, was published on the 5th March and is available to buy at the below outlets:

Penelope Magnificent’s life doesn’t live up to her name. Her dad only thinks about making money, and her mum loves her handbag more than her daughter. But she gets through the hard times remembering the lovely French woman Perrine – Pear – who looked after her when she was little. Even after Pear was sent away, she wrote to Nell every week, telling her about her new life, promising one day she’d come back.

But the letters stopped, suddenly. So when Nell gets the chance to go to Paris with her parents, she is determined to track down Pear. But the mystery gets deeper when Pear isn’t where she told Nell she’d be – and never had been!
