Marjolijn van Heemstra

Marjolijn van Heemstra has a background in Religious Studies and is a celebrated Dutch writer, poet, journalist, and glowworm expert. She’s the space reporter for the Dutch journalism platform De Correspondent and has been committed to preserving nocturnal darkness since 2020. In recent years, she has led more than five-hundred night walks with a wide variety of groups. Her debut novel In Search of a Name (Das Mag, 2017), was published in seven languages and was awarded the prestigious BNG Literature Prize and shortlisted for the Libris Literature Prize. Her nonfiction book In Light-Years There’s No Hurry: Cosmic Perspectives on Everyday Life (De Correspondent, 2021) was published in the US by Norton and was ‘A New Scientist Best Popular Science Book of 2023’. The Night Guide is her second novel. Marjolijn van Heemstra lives in Amsterdam.
