James Close

Author

Dr. James Close is an Oxford-educated scientist whose research and writing has spanned fields including genomics, psychiatry, haematology and primary care. Whilst James’ interests continue to straddle the academic sphere, over the last decade he has subverted these evidence-based skills towards the challenges of professional gambling, trading financial markets and consultancy research. He was an internet poker professional for several years, appearing on Channel 4’s Late Night Poker.

James is currently working on his first popular-science book, entitled ‘Can’t Kill the Living Dead’. A lifelong fan of dark sci-fi and dystopian visions, the book is a passionate exploration of the arcane history of the undead and the science of why this ancient myth refuses to die. The book seeks to answer the burning question: where in the hell did all these undead come from, and why are we all so obsessed?
