Mentorship Programme

The Peters Fraser + Dunlop Mentorship Programme is a 12-month writing mentorship for aspiring authors, launched in 2024. As part of the agency’s commitment to finding fresh perspectives and discovering talented new writers of the future, this is a free scheme open to applicants of all backgrounds. The number of mentees selected will vary depending on the year’s applicants. The agency guarantees a minimum of three places each year.

Application for the programme opens on the 4th March 2024. We will be accepting submissions until midnight on the 31st May 2024. If you are selected for the programme, you will be notified by the 12th July.  Please note we are unable to provide feedback on submissions which are not selected for the scheme.

The PFD Mentorship Programme:

  • Mentees will be paired with an agent specialising in their genre of fiction.
  • There will be an initial first meeting to discuss the mentee’s vision for the rest of their book and be provided with an introduction to the industry.
  • Agreed deadlines will be set with the mentee’s agent over the course of 12 months with the aim of working towards completing their manuscript (whether this is a first full draft, or editing existing material). These can be tailored to each author’s individual requirements and time commitments.
  • Editorial feedback will be provided by the literary agent after each deadline.
  • Each mentee will receive guaranteed agent representation.

Entry requirements:

  • All adult fiction genres for planned full length novels accepted – novellas will be considered but not short stories or short story collections.
  • Applicants must be non-agented.
  • Please submit a cover letter, 5,000 word sample and 1-2 page synopsis to apply. Manuscripts need not be completed at time of application.
  • Entries should be sent to mentorship@pfd.co.uk
